The e53 does not come with hook

Im thinking about buying a e53. But the owner says there is no hook. Is it possible to buy it? does hook fit all e53’s?

In the states the factory kit is almost impossible to find. That said there are aftermarket kits. Its not that hard to install those.

When I read your subject line...I was thinking of the towing hook eye...not the trailer hitch. So I was prepared with this:

If you are towing light trailers you don't need the factory tow package (that incorporates the trailer brakes into the DSC/ABS program). It's quite pricy to buy after the fact.

Does the trailer module deal with trailer brakes or does it just modify the operating parameters of the DSC/ABS to account for towing a trailer, once it detects a trailer is attached?

And I'm guessing that the word "hook" in this case is a somewhat literal translation from Icelandic!

It also controls the electric brakes of a traiker if it has them

By "control" do you mean it activates them? While this is functionally no different than activating electric brakes via either the brake lights or the brake light switch (as was done in my car when I got it - rather badly too - I ripped it all out) BMW have made provision for electric trailer brakes via the trailer module: -

Information from the 1st Page of BMW’s Tow Bar Installation
Instructions:

"A connection pin for retrofitting (electric brake) is provided on
plug X393S. If an electrical brake is desired for the trailer, it
can be retrofitted. For the latest list of recommended brake
controllers contact BMW Service Hotline. The signal pick-off for
brake (the input to the brake controller) may only take place on
plug X12, Pin 10. This plug, X12, is to the Light Control Module
(LCM), the wire color is black and yellow. The male pin (BMW
P/N 61 13 1 376 195) should be used at the mating plug of
X393S. Be sure to observe this information."

There's also a lot of lighting connections between the car, the trailer module and the LCM. The trailer module performs the "check control" functions for the trailer lamps and passes this info on to the LCM. The LCM also possibly passes a "trailer connected" signal to the DSC/ABS to enable the DSC towing mode.
