Window rolls up by itself? WHAT WHY!???

So I got in my X5 to go to the store. The passenger rear window would not roll down so I thought it was dead. But When I park I can roll it down but as soon as asI let go of the switch it rolls up automatically (using the drivers main window switch) What would cause this?

Thanks!

Malfunction switch? Swap the switch to see if symptom remains.

How is your battery?

can you do some light troubleshooting?

car is locked, you use the keyfob and roll all windows down - does it work on that window?

is your car programmed to roll windows up with keyfob? if so, can you try to roll them up?

try the same thing with the key inside the keyhole - does it work? both ways, up and down?

turn the engine on, roll the rear right window with a driver's switch - up and down? what does it do?

with the engine running, get in the rear of the car, use the switch on the door - what happens?

this exercise will help you narrow down the issue to a most likely culprit... I do suspect a faulty switch, as TMV mentioned, but to avoid unneeded repairs, it is better to do simple troubleshooting now, than throw parts at the problem...

was there any event that lead to this? like rain, hard braking, wife driving the car??..
