PDC Behavior Question

My PDC seems to be working correctly, as far as telling me when something is close, front or rear. My question is, though, should it turn off once I put the X in Park?

Example, when I back into the garage, the beeping is nice to gauge if I'm far enough in to clear the door (when the front stops beeping, I know I'm past the door). But once I put it in Park, I'd rather it stopped beeping. I'm not going anywhere at that point.

Is this normal, or is there something not right with my system, or is it something that could be modified in the system?

I've noticed that sometimes mine would stop. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to work or not

Mine does not turn off in park. A few times I have had to fetch something out of the trunk while leaving the driveway (or re-close the trunk before I changed the stops) and put the vehicle in park but still running and can hear the PDC alarming when it detects me walking behind the vehicle. Perhaps it can be coded - mine is not...

These systems weren't very smart yet in the early/mid 2000s. When backing up, as in out of your driveway/garage, then driving away, it will turn off over a certain speed. When PDC is activated by reverse, then the car is parked and left running, my understanding is it will turn off after a certain amount of time. Very irritating if parked close to something, I'm always manually deactivating.

PDC should beep (even in park) like in the scenario you described once the tranny has been placed in REVERSE. At that point, it's in the "auto" mode and will automatically turn off after a certain distance or speed is reached.

There is automatic activation/deactivation and manual activation/deactivation. If you want it to stop, you can manually deactivate PDC by pressing the button (light should turn off).

Below is the description of how auto & manual activation/deactivation works:

That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with my system. Thanks!

Mine would beep in reverse and stop when it's in park but still be active

Hmmm. I wish I could get mine to behave that way. What year are you driving?

2006 and also when it's in reverse only the back pdc's work and as soon as I put the car in drive it turns off the rear and the fronts turn on. I'm not sure if yours works like that too
