anyone tried Auto boot/trunk release springs?

I've often liked the idea of auto trunk release and see there's a few sellers on eBay etc who advertise these little springs that fit onto the rear boot lid struts that push up enough that when the boot release is activated from the remote or dash it should pop up - has anyone tried them and found they work?

The listings say they might not work if the struts are old or leaky - makes sense I guess as you need as much upward pressure as possible.

listing.....

You need to replace the struts inorder to use them since the old strut balls can not be removed to slip the spring over the struts. Do a search, this topic was covered last month.

I searched and have searched again but I can still find nothing on the subject - apart from my new post now. Have you a few keywords I should be searching for?

I understand your point although the seller advices that the end ball joint screws off and I checked his feedback and found a few E53 buyers who had said it worked ok for them.
