E70 wheels fit E53?

I'm looking for a set of winter tyres on wheels so I can swap easily each season. I have an E53 2003 year 3.0d but most wheels I see up for sale are from E70's.
Is there a general compatibility between E70s and E53 wheels? I've searched but all I've found for sure is X6 wheels do not fit X5's without modification.

do a search on hub centric rings and you should find a chart of sizes by year as they will be needed to fit e70 to your model year.

Here's a BMW wheel compatibility chart below. The REAR wheels of the e70 X5M and e71 X6 have the same size center bore...and can be mounted on the e53 X5 without the use of hub centric rings. But you may need to check the offset in case you need to use wheel spacers on the front:

All good info. I have E70 tires [bmw style 209s] with hubcentric rings mounting my summer performance tires, with Conti DWS all seasons on my original E53 wheels. The DWS and original wheels are going back on this Saturday, since we have a dusting of snow forecast for next Monday, and Atlantans have a very hard time with any precip on the roads; I'll need the grip to help avoid them!
