Back-to-black

Which product are you guys using to get the black plastic trim on your X to a black rich finish?

Clean it really well first... and then we use Mother's Back to Black. There are better products, but this is cheap and locally available. Plus it doesn't seem to attract dust like some other products we have used.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
clean with a diluted APC (test it first to make sure its ok with plastic) and an MF towel to remove old dressings and oxidation.

I use Super VRT from Adam's, Back to Black sucks in my opinion.

If you want a real detailers secret, try some Collinite 845, as a wipe on and wipe off application on the trim. It will literally last 6+ months if not more, and will not stain if applied and removed properly.

That's the general consensus. It has to be reapplied after almost every wash and is a pain (in the back) to apply evenly. But as I said, we have good results with it and it doesn't attract dust.

Would love to try those products you recommended... any of them available at the chain stores?

The products RB is talking about are more "pro" type products available online.

I detail cars on the side and have alot of the good products you can only get online, but when i do mine i still use some i guess call them old fashion or shade tree tricks lol.. It also depends how much you clean your car, i constantly wipe down with quick detailers and spray waxes which will make the trim dark and mine usually stays that way.

If im cleaning it up and taking the extra step or for a show/carmeet just use an older microfiber and i spray some tire shine onto it and run it along. Case in point is which tire shine to use, some will leave a thicker greasy residue which is not what you want.

I use this tire shine when i want the spray, i also use this on the inside of the wheel wells, and to wipe down the trim and give it a nice pop shine if i want, doesnt leave thick residue on it.

If i use a liquid one with applicator its this one

This liquid one only for the tires, dont use it on the trim otherwise youll get the greasy stuff all over.

Both smell great too, dub one smells like oranges and the other like grape. Both can be had at your local walmart.

EDIT: Crystal just saw you live in SA, what part? I lived there from April-July in 2014. The 2nd pic in my sig is taken at parking garage at the mall by balcones heights.

Over by Lackland AFB... would love to see your X sometime. Ever go out to Coffee and Rides on IH10 @ Lowe's @ La Cantera? Everything from classics to muscle, to euros, to exotics out there. Nice meet.

I hate having to order detailing products... it's a pet peeve. If I can't find it locally I usually just end up grabbing what the chain stores stock.

Though I do need some more DA pads so I might order some of that stuff RB suggested... but holy crap $25 a bottle! Better come with a reach around.

I don't mind the Mother's Back-to-Black. Restored mine from faded to nice deep black. No issues.

$25 a bottle but I dress my tires and trim with it for at least a year out of one bottle. Little goes a long way. I'd rather spend more on products I get a lot of use and longevity out of, personally.

Crystalworks, i dont live there anymore . But yes i know what you are talking about, i used to hang with a bmw crew i met up with down there, we had a meet at taco cabana forgot by what road the club name was eurotic.

We used to ride up to that lowes meet right after then, dont know if you were ever at one between those months but you would have definitely heard the car ha!

Edit: Just saw you said cars and coffee, there was another thing at lowes but this was after our meets wed nights.

I'm going to give it a shot. It's not that I don't think it's worth $25... lol. It's just that I'm cheap.

But if it does everything they claim... I'll probably be switching to this exclusively now that it's "water repellant." I couldn't see paying $25 for a formula that washed off easily with rain or a car wash. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
