I've run Mobil [1] for over 25 yrs in ALL my vehicles (0w-40 in the M62 X5, almost 200k miles now).

No wear issues and only 1 leak (VCGs on the M62).

Pic from the VCG gasket change at almost 190k miles, manufacturing grind marks still visible on the cam lobes (pic date is actually fall 2014, battery died on camera, didn't reset date pre-photo).....

Nothing wrong with Mobil 1 oil.

But the test is testament to several other points:

* Following the manufacturer's recommended service intervals
* The engineering, design, and manufacturing quality of the powertrain
* The benefits of running a vehicle hot, and not going through multiple hot/cold cycles, or operating with a cold engine on short trips

Especially with point number 3.

When my VCG was changed at 242,000 miles, I asked the service tech to let me know if he found any internal issues at all - he said he couldn't even find any wear on the timing chains. I've stuck with Castrol Edge synthetic and 7500 mile changes, but I'm sure any quality synthetic oil and appropriate change intervals will produce a long mechanical engine life.

2004 325i 118,000 miles

I'm impressed. As said keeping up with schedule maintenance.

What would be the result of this test in actual driving severe use and perfect maintenance? Labs remove other variable. Still impressive.
