Picking up my X today after open heart surgery
In addition to the valve stem seals, the shop did a lot of additional odds and ends: -New passenger mirror (mirrors weren't folding and the mirror would "hunt" when I put it in reverse rather than just pointing down) -Power steering reservoir filter and hose (hose was worn and the reservoir was leaking from a clogged filter) -Leaking mechatronic sleeve seal which also includes a transmission drain and fill -Leaking alternator bracket -New spark plugs (while they're in there, might as well throw some new plugs in) The beauty is that my extended warranty is picking up literally 90% of the tab! Of all the things done, the power steering reservoir isn't covered and the transmission service is only partially covered (labor, seal, and new fluid is covered, but new pan and filter are not). The valve stem seals, alternator bracket, and mirror are all covered! So with this service, the extended warranty has now more than paid for itself. WOO HOO! ![]()

Yeah, haven't seen the final bill yet, but it's in the neighborhood of $6000.
![]() I've got my fingers crossed that this will take care of all the little random stuff for a while. And thank God the warranty is picking up most of the tab! I probably would have done things one at a time if it didn't.

How many miles did your car have with blue smoke disease? I've got 111k on mine and no smoking at all. Not sure if they were done by the PO (previous to 73k miles) or if I am lucky or if there's something lurking.....

I'm not sure when it came down with the disease. Shortly after I bought it (had 73k miles), I did the first oil change. And it was a little while after that when I started noticing smoke. So I suspect that a dealer or previous owner used some stop leak and the oil change drained it out.

Just picked up my X and got to do a little freeway driving. Maybe it's in my head, but it seems to run a little smoother and peppier...it just feels more "fresh".
A shout out to Signature Independent in Kirkland, WA for taking good care of me. The work was done well and they did a great job in working with my warranty company to get things covered. Also a shout out to United Car Care for stepping up to the plate on the warranty. Because of the long list of expensive things to take care of, they sent out an adjuster to inspect the car. And they took care of 90% of the total cost!

I was quoted $7-8k for same job, and i have brake issues as well so at 111k miles, decided to get replacement. Glad to hear warranty covered that huge expense. |

By the way did you look at the bill to see how much they charged for the valve stem seal job? Last time I talked to Rick he said he will do it for 1600$ parts and labor .

Rick quoted me $2500 for the valve stem seal job. However, I think they might have put a "book rate" on the invoice since they billed the warranty company for it and not me.
The labor was $4180 and the parts were $620. He mentioned that it was about a 20 hour job so $2500 is a fair price and probably what he would charge those paying out of pocket. If your X is smoking, don't hesitate to take it to him.

United Car Car seems like a solid company. How much did you pay and what plan?
Did you buy the extended warranty with the car? My extended warranty expires this August with NAC and may look for another one. NAC has been terrific but with my service history I afraid of what they will charge me for a renewal. Also a shout out to United Car Care for stepping up to the plate on the warranty. Because of the long list of expensive things to take care of, they sent out an adjuster to inspect the car. And they took care of 90% of the total cost![/QUOTE] |
