Auto tilt wing mirror glass
Also for some reason my car also dumped (99.9% sure it was)a diesel puddle under car this morning, all I did was start it up and turned it straight off because I forgot to do somthing in the house, when I came back out I saw the puddle and steady dripping, I removed the plastic front bottom plastic cover but couldn't see anything obvious, looked under hood again nothing, took it for a remap had it up on garage ramp for quick look, nothing, is there a chance it flooded itself somehow turning it on then straight off when cold starting and dumped the excess fuel. ![]()

Leeg, I am having the same problem with my mirrors, use the "search fourm" tool and search mirror problems and it will pop up all sorts of answers, you will find what you need, some are very good with pics!!! as far as the diesel problem I do not have any answers...sorry

Until you can fix the issue...you can de-activate the auto-tilt-in-reverse feature if you find it irritating:
(this is based on LHD..not sure if RHD positions are the same)

On my E83, a similar problem with the outside mirror tilting randomly and not holding position was due to the tilt position sensor inside the mirror housing not functioning correctly. There are a couple of different mechanisms used on different models. I read a write up on an early E53 where it was possible to take it apart and fix the sensor. I tried that on the E83 but the mechanism was different, the sensor was built into the motor and drive. I ended up replacing the mirror assembly internals because it was annoying.

My passenger side mirror was doing the same thing. It was solved by installing a new mirror motor.

I had an indy do it as it was covered under extended warranty. If I recall correctly, the new motor was about $200 and an hour's worth of labor.
If I had to pay out of pocket, I probably would have just let it go. The mirror dipping is a handy feature but not critical. The "hunting" behavior is a little annoying but at least you can turn the feature off by switching the mirror adjustment switch to the passenger side.

And if there are less than 2 drivers...the 3rd memory seat setting can be utilized as a manual manipulation of the passenger side mirror. Instead of using the auto-dip-in-reverse feature...disable it (if it's not working correctly) and then create a seat memory setting (well...you're only setting the passenger mirror)...and anytime you want to check the curb on the passenger side...you can press the seat memory button that you programmed yourself.
And if you like using this feature while backing out of a tight garage or parking space...or if you park on a 1-way street and many times find your self parking on the left side of the street...you can program both the driver & passenger side to focus on the curb...and use this seat memory setting as a curb setting for parking on either side of the street or backing out of your single door garage etc. Just another thought and work around until the issue can get fixed/repaired etc. ![]()

Using the seat memory settings wouldn't have worked on my mirror failure. When the mirror glass position sensor fails, the mirror motor no longer knows where the mirror glass is. That is why it cycles up and down (seemingly randomly, but actually searching....)
Preset positions were no longer held (because it couldn't find them). I could turn off the auto tilt function and manually move the mirror, but not use the memory settings. And eventually I just bought the mirror motor assembly, swapped it myself (fairly straightforward) and moved on.
