Interior color name of 2001

Been awhile since I have posted. Recently moved and ran across some leftover parts from my 2001 X5, one being a brand new OEM leather driver's seat cover with built-in heater element. I purchased this after having the issue with the hot spot but never installed the thing. Before I post it for sale, I wanted to confirm what the name of the leather color was. It was what I considered black, but the seats were actually dark grey in the center and black on the edges. Can someone tell me what color this was called so I can make sure to post it correctly?

Thanks!

Do you still have the VIN of that 2001 anywhere? If you remember or can find the last 7 digits of the VIN...you could run the VIN through the decoder and get the actual code number and name...which would be really helpful in selling the seats. If a prospective buyer inquired...you could give them the actual code for the seat material & color combo.

Click here and enter last 7 digits of VIN, then answer the CAPTCHA question correctly: BMW Model Archive · BMW VIN Decoder · bmwarchive.org

Thanks for the info!!

Qsilver - good idea. I actually do still have the VIN # and will double-check the info. Now that I think about it, I believe I still have the original window sticker which should also list the interior color.

I will be posting this seat cover soon, once I have paid for another Premium membership.

Thanks again to everyone!!

I don't know what Kunst means in German...but leder = leather & schwarz = black. Do you have any other info/detail that may indicate what kunstleder might mean? Like is there an option code listed (like option code K4SW)...which would indicate the imitation leather options?

EDIT: I wonder if kunst = artificial in this case?

If I were to look up "kunst leder schwarz" on babelfish.com ...I probably could figure it out in a few seconds...but more than likely it is the name bmw calls the type of leather like Montana, Dakota, or WalkNappa.

Just rechecking to get an update...does Kunstleder/schwarz have the option code K4SW next to it? If so, it would bring resolution to your question as well as to others that may have the same question when searching for this same info.

Thanks QSilver, yes it does say K4SW. I think you are right that Kunst means fake, or pleather

Appreciate the info,

Mike
