Battery died now key doesn't work

I was out of town for a month and forgot to disconnect the battery. Got back last night and the battery is dead so charged overnight and starts like a champ. Problem is the interior lights don't work when I open the door, central locking is not working from the key fob or the button inside. I tried reprogramming the key but that didn't work either. Is it possible the key battery needs replacing?

someone else had this problem and bmw said their car went into 'transport mode' parantly had to go to the dealer to be coded back in. not sure if it can be done with bmw 1.4 jobbie, google transport mode and see what happens
