Trans gurus needed...

I had posted a thread before about the internal trans temp sensor in my 01 X5 with the 4.4.

Here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...y-advance.html

I'm just now getting to the repair. It's torn down, and I have the old harness out and thought to check it before putting it back together.

I had gotten a link with the chart for resistance measurements on it, and it's looking like that may or not be the problem since the resistance is correct at differing temps..

It's correct at room temp, and then I filled a glass with hot tap water, which I know the temp is set close to 115*f, and it registered correctly.

So, could it still be possible the temperature is still probable for erratic shifting?
Could it be input/output sensor related?

Or, should I just put it back together and see what it does?

Search for posts by RRPhil here.

Someone posted that he had a trans problem and suspected the temp sensor. RRPhil replied to it with other probable causes.

Well. I looked through a lot of Phils posts, and didn't see much else that I hadn't already looked at. So, buttoned it back up.

I ended up replacing the harness, gasket and re-filled with new fluid.

And after a short road test, it shifts fine, for now..... Guess we'll see

Hopefully that solved your problem.

IIRC someone mentioned the harness and Phil posted that he suspected an o-ring in the trans assy, complete with pics.

Good luck!
