I fixed the buzzing sound, it was indeed the fan in the dash...do i have to remove the alternator in order to replace the regulator? Is there a dyi for it?
@Astrok did this happen to you only in cold starts or all the time? Mine is starting to have this issue even when it's not cold outside now. Thanks

Just intermittent

My had no pattern to it. Would have days car was fine and days like last Saturday were I struggled to get home from home-deport 5 miles away. What is consistent is 16+ voltage spike and lights come on 1 second later. if the spikes keep coming you get trans fail and car starts shutting down. If spikes stop and you are not in shutdown( trans fail) car drives fine with ABS,4X4 and brake lights on.
In the early stages I would read codes and they would make no sense.

Regulator on order

BMW parts shows a regulator for 05 4.8. I order one and I am waiting to see what I get. I know the regulator is attached to back of alternator. As long as you can get one it should be serviceable
