Front Struts - Regular vs Sports Suspension Settings
RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Front Spring strut/Carrier/Wheel bearing
What's the differentce between the sports suspension settings on the struts? Just different stiffness? I'm looking to get some new ones, I'm hearing some clicking when I hit bumps thinking these are to blame. Thanks

Yeah, I know the sports are firmer due to how the shocks are valved and quite possibly a mildly reduced ride height. Someone else can confirm. Seems that way with my past 3.0s. I like the sport shocks, even on the rough roads around here in Logan. If you go aftermarket, I'm told the bilstien HDs are quite firm, almost too harsh. There seems to be more options availible now than even a few years ago. Good luck man.

Oh yeah... Be sure to check everything well, could be anything in the front suspension making a click sound, perhaps a sway bar connecting rod, bad ball joint, thrust arm bushing, etc.
When your struts go to junk, stuff gets real harsh and uncontrolled, and bobs around, or in early stage, just overly soft.

The sports are .08" lower, and stiffer. Install them on a non-sport with OE rear springs/bags/shocks/sways will result in INCREASED understeer.
Rule of thumb, more stiffness across an axle DECREASES grip on that axle.

my sport suspension is already too stiff for me. so what you're saying is if I install non sport shock with sport springs, the ride will be softer or harder?
