NAV Slow to boot?

Recently I have noticed more and more that the NAV is taking a long time to boot at start-up. Sometimes as much as 30 seconds or more with a message that NAV is starting..

Its not all the time however. And there is no consistency that I have noticed. Is this a sign of impending HDD failure, or something I should be worried, or doing something about?

Do you use the nav? I noticed by accident in my 5 series that without the nav disc in the entire system is noticeably faster. I occasionally look at the road map for spontaneous traffic decisions but otherwise always use the iPhone and don’t use the old onboard nav.

Yeah, I prefer the on board NAV to the Cell phone, mostly because the screen is much more easily viewed while driving, and other than slow voice recognition of address entry, I have no issue with it..

But this is a relatively new issue, just started noticing it recently..

How much music do you have saved to the HDD? My CIC is still nice and fast, but when I had uploaded a large chunk of music it slowed down. Removed the music and my speed was back.

I just wish I had the programming chops to upgrade the HDD to a larger SSD. I've seen a couple of people who have done the modification and in comparison, it's much much quicker!

Hey now, that is a good thought... I don't have the HDD filled by any stretch, but could cut it down to just enough tunes to get by if I don't have the USB device in the car, which is rare anyway. I may get a stopwatch out and run a test

When was the last time you updated your maps? I did mine last year and it seemed to slow down from that. Then I did the 2019-1 update last month and it sped back up, but still not as fast as original maps.

I got my map updates from www.bmwnavupdate.com

Just a thought.

Bough the car in July of 2018, I have not made any changes to it since purchase, just started noticing the slow boot a few weeks ago..

That is EXACTLY what I would like to do! But even reading that a number of times, just too wimpy as I'd be afraid of bricking the system entirely!
