09' Headlight

My driver side headlight turned pink last night. I know this is a sign of the bulb going out. My question is it hard to replace the bulbs? Do i need to take out the bumper, fenders just to get to the headlight assembly? Can someone point me in the right direction? Also, has anyone tried the osram cbi bulbs? Who's the supplier for bmw hid bulb? thanks, Sam

You don't have to remove the fender, just turn the lid behind the headlight assembly and unhook the spring....and remove the bulb and reverse after replacing the bulbs.

Anyone have any photos for this? I got the lid off easy enough, but it's hard to tell what I'm doing with unhooking the spring.

Can you post a pic of what it is that you are having difficulty figuring out? BMW uses a lot of similar design elements...especially when it comes to wiring harnesses and connectors. Someone may not have opened or seen the headlight set-up for an e70 X5...but may be familiar with the harness if it is like other ones used around the vehicle or even other models.

Okay, I managed to get a little more light to the area (passenger side) and was able to see enough of the spring to release it. Local Advance Auto Parts store wants $99 for a D1S, and I'm not even sure the bulb is the culprit. Maybe I'll swap with the driver's side to see if it's bulb, ballast, or circuit first, then order my parts online for less. Even if cheaper online parts are not as good, at least I can justify some "try & see if it fixes it".

No need to disconnect the battery, just make sure the car is off when swapping them out.
