Software update

Hi Guys. I'm fairly new to the X5 world, have had a 2012 X5 3.5d for 2 months now. I've been trying to update the communications software. Currently its at "MX/TX 003.004.031. I've downloaded the update, (008) as per my VIN, from the BMW.com/update site. I download it, expand it, then load it onto my Fat32 16 gig USB drive. I plug it into the center armrest USB connector (also tried the glove box on), no luck...my system say there's no update software on the drive. I know both USB ports work as I've used teh glove box one to upgrade the Nav system 2 days ago. The one in the center arm rest I've used with my iphone.

I'm stumped...any ideas??

I had trouble at first, too. Make sure it's formatted FAT32 and the update file is the only thing on there (or at least at the root).

Then this is where I got it to finally work. Plug in the drive (center console port) before turning on the car in any capacity. So plug it in, start the car (or just turn to "on" without starting) and wait about 30-60 seconds. It takes time to read the drive. After you've waited a minute, try the update and it should work.

Try another USB drive also different sizes sometimes work. I have found that that works sometimes.

Apparently I had another senior moment: I was unzipping the files instead of leaving it alone in the ".bin". Doh!!!!! All great now
