How does doing mods to the car affect the warranty? Like lets say aftermarket wheels?

Or LuX angel eyes? A new muffler?

Would things like this void an extended warranty?

The company offering the warranty is Cornerstone. Any good/bad reviews? Couldn't find a lot on them from searching. My buddy selling me the car said he prefers Cornerstone by a long shot over Aul.

The thing I'm worried about when signing up w/ the warranty, is can I trust these companies to actually pay? Have their been instances where these companies refuse to pay for certain repairs that should indeed be covered?

I just got my 11 X5 back in Feb. I had a NOx sensor fail, which the warranty covered ($750 job at dealer), but then my EGR Cooler just cracked and the warranty company just refused it ($1600 job at dealer). I've taken the car home and am now going to replace the EGR cooler on my own.

Overall I'd say don't bother with the warranty, ESPECIALLY if you have any mechanical ability to do some fixes yourself.

Now this depends on what you are used to driving too; my frame of reference was an M3 and a 328i. So the truck overall is a big change for me.

But if you want non-low profile tires, 19s may actually be a better/cheaper option, while still filling up the wheel well. I would do lots of google image searches. It comes down to personal taste, and whether you are looking for good functional wheels/tires or looks only.

Thanks for posting a pic heatmizr! Your car looks clean and super nice! The X5 I'm looking at is also black, except it has the chrome accent around the windows and it has the running boards.

I drive an Audi A6 on 20" wheels upgraded from the 18" stock. There wasn't much of a difference in the ride quality, other than hitting large potholes which are few and far between.

Soo they don't pay? Was the EG cooler something that was supposed to be covered? What was their reasoning?

I am not mechanically inclined at all. I won't be doing DIY jobs on this car unfortunately. But I do have a really good mechanic who I trust who is good w/ German cars. I can take it to him for fair pricing and avoid getting ripped by the stealership.

You seem to be hinting that the warranty company may refuse to pay or back out on their end of the deal. Is this something you've heard of happening often?

Yeah, they say the EGR Cooler wasn't on the list of covered parts. I don't really know why it wouldn't be, though

My warranty paid for itself in the first repair when the pano roof broke. Then it covered the coolant tank cracking, most of it anyway. And the steering angle sensor. I have bumper to bumper coverage. Just read the fine print and you may have to go back and forth with them but I've had a positive experience with warranties on my touareg and now on my E70. BMW repairs are astronomical. if you aren't a hobbyist repair guy get the warranty and sell the thing before the warranty is up.
