Looking into this myself. On many other cars I have run Akebono Ceramics and cured a brake dust issue, including an Audi that made almost as much dust as my E70. Given modern technology I think it is ridiculous BMW spec's pads that make SO MUCH dust. My Porsche's don't, most cars don't.

Alsalsa, still having bad dust problems?

Anyone else solve the dust issue?

That AA stuff works very well...for a few washes. Weight has nothing to do with it....many vehicles weigh more than this X5, and do not have this issue. Look at 1 ton pickups, Porsche Cayenne's, VW Tuareg's, the big Infinities and Lexus'......

Again, has anyone found a dustless pad for our vehicles yet?

I have the brake dust covers on my stock 18s, they work great keeping the wheels cleaner longer. You canbuy them off ebay or other sources. Goes on between the rotor and the wheel.

Here is a sample for 20" wheels

Have Akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors. Very, very little dust (if at all, that may be just dirt).

To be honest, I miss the way the brake-dusty OEM pads grabbed and had instant braking effect. But, I am slowly getting used to and adjusting to the way Akebonos brake. Not missing the OEM brake dust at all.

I have Akebono pads on my E55 and they are amazing. I recently changed the BMW X5 pads out for Akebono's as well. They have almost NO dust in the fronts or rears. Something's not right. I drive a little aggressive and don't baby the X5 when breaking either. I haven't washed my wheels in over 1500 miles/5 weeks and almost no dust.

I put akebono pads on my E70 and have no issues with dust. Drove it round trip from Minneapolis to New Orleans last winter and the wheels were clean when we got home.
