I guess your car is 2010+ model with CIC and the I-drive controller is your problem.

beemer606,
Your iDrive knob may have come slightly loose. You could either try pressing is straight down to reseat it or pull it straight up to remove it (and then push it back on again afterwards). |

The knob is tight. The idrive has lost half of it's functionality. How do I replace the idrive module? Is this something I should fool with?

Do you think the knob is actually the "idrive"?? or the thing the knob is attached to is the 'idrive'?????
I would take out the knob/controller and thoroughly clean it with contact cleaner. See if that does it. Report back (PS there are threads on removing the knob/controller..do a search.) Last edited by ard; 02-15-2015 at 12:33 AM. Reason: damn autocorrect |

I couldn't find a thread relating to the replacement of the module. Do I have to pull the console apart or just remove the knob to gain access to the module? |

FYI- you deleted the "]" on the end of my post. You can go back to YOUR post, hit the "edit" button, and repair that ...so the 'quote' will show up properly!
Ive given you EVERYTHING you need to take the next step... "search" will lead you to DIY info on how to get at the control knob. Instead of asking, and hoping someone will regurgitate this for you, 5 minutes of searching and reading will yield FAR more than one or two replies in this thread! |

Getting back to trying to remove the idrive module. I did a search and no help for how to actually removing the module. Is it just a matter of pulling the knob off and undoing a screw or something? I don't want to force off the knob(won't just pull off with my hand)by prying with a tool if that is not the way to get the module out.
