Semi common. Was your checked as part of the recall?
Do a search, arm yourself before you speak to the service advisor. IMO BMW should pay for this even if out of warranty...there was a known issue |

No it's still under warranty but I'm surprised the Germans used such a puny u-joint for a 400hp drive train

Update.
The dealership said that the driveshaft wasn't under warranty but as a courtesy they are going to replace it. It still has plenty of time left on the CPO warranty so how would that not be covered? Ridiculous. |

As a courtesy?!?!?! There was a recall on it -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/12X5...ew?usp=sharing
Dealers make no courtesy. They lie, throw BMW under the bus or take credit for BMW actions, depending on what make them look good. And it has nothing to do with power: the drain for the A/C drips condensation over it, goes into the bearings and seize them. |

Do you think BMW is saying 'water and corrosion are 'outside influences'???????? explicitly excepted by the CPO and new car warranty? |

Ok now wait. My 2012 5.0 had it's front axle stripped by the previous dealer when they took out the engine to replace the front timing chain cover seal, as part of the N63 campaign. It was/is still under factory warranty so a new axle was covered in full (not to mention the other dealer screwed it up).
I was talking to my SA while there about the CPO warranty and asked if this would have been covered under that (rather than the new/factory warranty) and he said that it would have been. Maybe he meant that because BMW dealer damaged it that it would have been covered either way? |
