Anyone have the E53 vs. the E70

Has anyone had an E53 and moved up to the E70? If so, anyone really happy and why, if not why not....

Thanks.

I had 2 E53s - a 2001 4.4i and a 2005 4.4i. Moved up to a 2008 4.8i and am now in a 2010 X6 50i.

I hated the E70 when it first came out. I only got the E70 as a "bridge" car to get me to the X6. It quickly grew on me. I easily forgot that it was longer and wider. The handling was much better than my E53s and the power was also an improvement. No regrets. I only leased it for two years but could have easily stayed in it for longer.

I know you didn't ask but the X6 is by far my favorite vehicle ever!

I've had 2001 X5 3.0, 2004 X5 4.4i and now the 2011 X5 Diesel. I really liked the 3.0, it was solid and really trouble free. The 3.0 I6 was the smoothest engine of the bunch.

The 4.4i was a great handling and fast car. The sound of the engine was awesome; I miss it over the chunkier sound of the diesel. I liked the overall exterior size and interior of it as well; just easy to get around in, park, etc.

I like my E70 - but it's a way different car. It's larger, I don't think it handles as nicely as my 4.4i (which I'm attributing to the standard 18" tires on this versus the 19" staggered on my 4.4i). And the electronics are much more advanced which has taken some getting used to; actually frustrated the heck out of me at times.

I too didn't like the E70 when it came out but it's really grown on me since LCI and I like the looks of my car. But there are days I still want for my 2004 4.4i again - just not the repair headaches which is why I sold it.

I've had a 2004 E53 4.4i, and 2004 4.8is, a 2007 3.0si, a 2008 4.8i and now my 2011 35d.

To date, my favourite was the 2004 4.8is. My 2007 and 2008 E70s were awful. Electrical and computer related problems, battery issues, lighting, HVAC.

Besides from a dreaded (and what looks like not fixable) driver's seat creak/crack in my 2011 X5, it has been great. 6 months, 4,000 miles and no issues. MPG is great, LCI taillights are beautiful and the interior fit and finish is pretty good.

For me, the 2004 4.8is E53 was my best and favourite X5. Loved that car!! Miss it almost daily!

I had a 2004 and 2005 3.0i and while my 2004 was trouble free the 2005 sure wasn't. It's the main reason I went to the Touareg but I really missed the ride and handling of the BMW so I moved back to an E70. While it is larger I really love it all around (and the comfort seats are incredible)

Are the confort seats in the E70 different than the E53? I have the confort seats in my E53 and I would think the sport seats would be more comfortable....

Thanks for the knowledge.

Yes they are. I also have the Ventilated seating so my driver's seat is dynamic

I had an '03 E53 3.0, then an '11 E70 35d. I got rid of the E53 because of the increasing cost of repairs.

I loved the interior of my E70 over the E53, and there are aspects of the handling of the E70 that I liked over the E53 (adaptive drive and all), but like deutsch100, I missed my E53 daily. I thought that the E70 drove just too darned 'big'.

A couple of weeks ago I traded my E70 for a '12 E71 3.5+sport. Awesome! Cockpit feels exactly the same as my E70, but it drives oh so different in a sprightly way (well, as sprightly as a 5k lb car can). Looks pretty sweet too.

Why didn't I get an E71 to begin with in '11? That "only seats 4" dilemma that was solved in the '12 model; that allowed the jump to my fave.
