BMW E70 LCI - Remove LCD anti-glare coat DIY

If you are like me, can't stand a few scratches on the LCD (well, more than a few on mine), here is a write up on how to remove the anti-glare coat and install an LCD film protector.
The whole procedure should take less than 15-20 minutes.

First you have to remove the middle console air vent.

From both sides, grab the bottom of the console and gently pull. Let it hang while you remove the LCD

Remove the two Phillips screws that hold in place the LCD assembly

Pull the assembly from the dashboard.
On the back there are two connectors. One that looks like a coaxial cable and the other like a regular connector
First, you have to remove the coaxial cable. To remove it you have to press the tiny tab on top (yellow arrow bellow).
The black connector has two tiny tabs on the sides that have to be squeezed

Next step is to remove the trim cover. It is held in place by four torx screws (above picture, red markings)

To clean the anti-glare coat I purchased a NOVUS 7136 Plastic Polish Kit from Amazon.
It comes in three flavors, 1, 2 and 3. I found number 1 to be useless for this application and number 3 too rough. I ended up using number 2.

It takes a lot of rubbing to remove the coat. I used a microfiber in the process. The above kit comes with some cleaning tissues, which I was afraid to use.

Once I was done with the anti-glare coat, I installed an iPad LCD cover cut to fit the screen.
I should have used an anti-glare protector but WalMart didn't have any.
I ended up with some shinny protector which is fine with me.
Better than the scratches I had before.

Put everything back following the instructions in reverse.
