Navigation display jitters

Has anyone noticed their navigation screen taking longer to display or resetting more often? I certainly have noticed a difference lately with the screen going black and resetting to the BMW logo more often these days. I wonder if the Russians are hacking it?

Hard drive may be going bad. I know I would jump on replacing it with an SSD drive while it still works.

Thanks Crowz, I looked for a link about that and couldn't find one. Any advice?

I will be doing a howto on this myself this week since I went ahead and ordered the ssd drive for mine. I'll post the link for it too when I get it installed.

Good luck with that. The link you gave me would not open the photos.

I haven't forgotten this but I ran into a problem. The drive came in and I removed the old drive but I cant get the usb adapter I bought over 15 years ago to work with it

It powers up and reads the ssd drive but the 80 gig Toshiba that came in the cic wont power up. I even borrowed a friends adapter which is identical to the one I have just hasn't ever been used and it wont power it up either.

So I ordered another adapter and it will be here Tuesday. I will go at it again then.

The trim panel around the ac controls is a royal pain to remove. The rest of the job is easy. Im worried the trim panel is going to break each time I remove it which has been twice so far trying adapters.

Zheino 128gig

I went with it since some had mentioned having issues with some brands so I figured I would go with what was known to work flawless.

Ok just finished this upgrade.

ROYAL pain.

I tried using the howto from here :

DIY Upgrade Navigation CIC Hard Drive to SSD Solid State Drive - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

The pictures and how to remove the drive and all was great. I will link the pics here in a few minutes since they are not showing in that thread without using a plugin in firefox.

The problem started when I went to copy the data from the old drive. The paragon software the guy used just wouldn't ever complete on my machine. So after 9 hours of battling with it I ended up using active disk backup software I already had installed and it worked fast and simple. Also to boot I now have an image of the disk saved out in case I ever need to make a new drive setup later.

Once I used active disk and put it back in the car and rebooted the cic it works perfectly. Nice and snappy too speed wise.

The other guys howto is really good so I cant see much of a point in remaking it right now but I may do one later myself.
