Software updates?

I have a 2011 X5 35d with the CIC Navigation unit. It appears the last software update was UPD01008.bin which is dated November 24, 2014.

I've been checking for updates periodically over the last year. I called BMW customer support and they did not have much visibility into when a new software might be released. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!

I have the same year and model vehicle and mine is still on the original one i think, i'll have to check. Last time i went to the dealer to ask for the software they said it will be about $300, i declined.

EDIT: I thought you were talking about ECU update, my bad.

UPD1008 was available on-line free, and a .BIN file spec requires no intervening reader program as a .EXE, for instance, would. My update was easy, quick and trouble free.

Now, NAV updates, that's a jackass of a different color, as third-parties profit from that closely held (by BMW) data.

Here.com owns the original author of BMW NAV and offers updates free to owners of subscribed makes - not BMW.

Do not buy software on-line without a guarantee of merchantability as it can and will brick your system. If it is too good to be true, it is.

Now that's funny....

They dont know anything, they will never know this..the dealer wont know this..nobody knows this...the update just 'come out' and become available.

IMO

Yes, I was referring to availability of future versions of the BWM ConnectedDrive software update available here: BMW ConnectedDrive : Software update

I've also done the maps update for navigation, but this only updates map data - not the iDrive software or mobile device compatibility.

The software updates you describe, update the software in the combox only. This purely is for external device compatibility including Bluetooth and the usb connectivity.
