Well yeah, in Appleton. In Appleton in December all air is cold unless it is warmed.

While we are at it...coolant overflow tank has been known to crack...each time the car gets hot, fluid goes into the tank...then leaks out..soon you are low on coolant

Driveway liquid spills/stains are easily differentiated, if not identified, by smelling and/or tasting them.

My most recent gasser automobile didn't have a belly pan and I learned the locations that mapped on to the driveway drips. None of my diesels have yet dripped a drop on to the driveway or belly pan that I know of.

So going back to basic discussion, if I were to replace the hoses and the compressor, what would or better yet, what should I be able to find these parts for from a bone yard or remaned? Today he told me the water pump is weeping some antifreeze... he said that was going to be $950.00

Thanks again all!

PSSS Anyone know of a good indy in my area?

I was not aware of that....

I sprayed (my goto) brake cleaner on the largest section and rinsed with hot water and much of it came right off. There is still some residue, but I can work or live with it.

OMG. On what basis are you making decision and asking questions????

"Something is wrong under the car. It IS a 2009 with 165k so maybe it will cost me some money. The thief of an indy decides there are some AC hoses bad....maybe I should spend $3k to appease the car gods".........and now you are casting about guessing about a compressor?!!?

Go back to the BMW dealer. Just get the coolant issue diagnosed. DO NOT MENTION ac hoses, ac compressors....

Who is speaking with the shop? You or your wife?

This sounds like a game of telephone.

How about you tell us what engine is in the vehicle first.

Then tell use if anyone has given you a quote and a breakdown of repairs.

$950 for a radiator hose replacement or lower temp sensor O-ring replacement would be totally out of line.

$950 for an expansion tank, water pump, thermostat and radiator would be a reasonable deal.

But if this is the same shop that said you needed all new A/C lines, well I think the guys behind the counter at the local Advance or AutoZone might be just as well qualified as the people or person you are dealing with?

How about some facts and details or maybe you need to think about this in a silent room for a few hours.

Dell's in Green Bay

Dell's Service Center | Auto Repair Green Bay WI | Mercedes Repair 54304 | Volvo Repair Green Bay WI | Land Rover Repair 54304 | Mercedes service Green Bay WI

I've met them, but haven't had any work done there yet. I have promised to at least consult with them first for emergent work.

Sorry for the lack of specificity. Its a 2009 4.8. I have been speaking with them, as an engineer, I feel comfortable with most of the jargon. I have restored about a dozen cars (all pre computer) from the ground up.

The way this has come about is what has me a bit off my game, started with an oil change and while there please see if there is anything leaking. They came back with AC lines leaking, made sense because it was not a dark oil on my garage floor, but I thought it may have been glycol as the anti-freeze low light came on. They did a pressure test of the cooling system and said that was fine, but that the oil lines from the AC compressor were leaking. That was a $585 quote to replace, then while in the shop to do this, he said they are now seeing weeping coming from the water pump.... Today he calls and said they think the compressor might be bad as well and we should consider having this replaced as well.

Long story short, I am going to have him replace the cooling oil lines, then recharge the system myself and see what works and doesn't...

This has been a futile effort to supplant the steal-er with an indy to save a few bucks. In the end you always get what you pay for.

I was just trying to gauge if the prices he was quoting were out of line or acceptable. To those that have been helpful, I appreciate it, to the dickhead ARD, BM!
