E70 September 2008 3.0SD versus E70 November 2008 Xdrive 35D

Hi Guys,

I have done a bit of searching and cannot find the relevant info I need in regards to this exceptional circumstance.

I have a "situation".

I was looking at replacing my 03 E53 4.4i that I have had for the last 5+ years.

A month ago I came across a higher KM E70 3.0SD September 2008 build.

It was at a dealership - never bought from one before - but price seemed good and the lure of the bullsh!t warranty they sell you seemed good at the time.

The car was advertised as a 2009 Xdrive 35d.

On the contract of sale -build date states 2009, model states 2009 Xdrive 30d

I thought nothing of it - but later when decoding the VIN etc the car year comes up as 2008....

Can someone clarify what build dates they stopped making the 3.0sd and started making the xdrive 35d?

I'm in Australia and fair trading said that if the year on the contract doesn't match the year on the car I can have my money back from the dealer.

The dealer keeps telling me its an Xdrive but I can see where they debadged the 3.0sd badge....

Advice??

Thanks again.

Justin

In US model years (MY) don't begin on Jan 1st, so it's perfectly fine to have a 2010 model made in, say, Sept or even June 2009.

Re xDrive, I believe all E70 have it regardless of MY or market. But BMW did change naming conventions over years, so 3.0sd is probably the very same car as xdrive 35d just different MY.

My concern is that I was upsold a "model, badge whatever" when in reality my september 2008 3.0sd is in fact just that....and not a 2009 Xdrive 35d - although I know essentially they are the same car...it still annoys me

I think the 3.0sd was only around for MY2007 and MY2008. Pretty sure the xDrive35d came after that in MY2009 and is the same vehicle.

I don't think the X5 was branded "xDrive" until MY2009. Branded meaning emblems placed on the vehicle.

The xDrive35d only exists in the US now. Since MY2011, it is the xDrive30d elsewhere.

As pointed out above, the production year can start months before the actual model year does so it is not abnormal to have a MY2009 vehicle produced in 9/2008, for example.

Likely, the 3.0sd that you are looking at is a very, very late 3.0sd. The next week they could have shifted to MY2009 and xDrive35d production. Certainly by November, MY2009 xDrive35d production would be in full swing

Have you tried entering your VIN at realOEM or bmwarchive?

What do you mean you can see where they debadged the "3.0sd" emblem?

Thanks for the clarity with your responses

My only issue is that they sold it to me as an Xdrive and a 2009 model when in fact it is MY2008 (LATE but still that none the less)

All good though will see what happens -

Cheers

Sorry didn't read this part:

Yes I put it in the BMW Decoder and - Year comes back 2008 and Model 3.0sd

On the side of car - where badges run - I can see the outline of the double sided tape that says "3.0sd" because they debadged the car before sale obviously...to sell as an 09 xdrive.

It does sound like you have a 9/2008 MY2008 3.0sd that the seller pawned off as a MY2009 xDrive35d. That you can see the outline of the 3.0sd emblem on the side is pretty good indicator of this.
