Wife just flooded the engine on 2007 4.8i. What next?

My wife was on her way to work this morning and went through some deep water. The vehicle shut down and the police brought her home.

After getting it home, I noticed water in the intake so I pulled the plugs. The engine will not turn over even with the transmission in neutral and no plugs in it. I am assuming there is mechanical damage. The water in the intake is mixed with oil, not a good sign.

At this point, I think the insurance totals it, but we will see. I like the vehicle and have recently done a lot of work to it, so it would be nice to fix it.

Anyone ever rebuilt one of these engines? Estimates on cost for complete overhaul?

I would guess it's hydrolocked. That blows. I'd be pretty bent out of shape, pun intended.

If the engine will not turn over without the spark plugs in it, this means the crank and or rod(s) are likely toast.

Get a used engine if you want to fix it.

Intake ducts are right above front kidneys. When moving in water that deep it rises up right at the front of the vehicle.

So sad to see this happen.

I was able to turn the engine in the opposite direction until it stuck again. Then I reversed again and rotated it in the normal direction as far as I could.

It acts like a rod is bent because it moves freely for a certain part of the stroke.

Buying a used engine would be the cheapest route but they are still like $3500-$7500 depending on the seller.

Part of me wants to go back with something better if I am going to go through trouble of fixing it. Maybe some performance parts like cams, exhaust, etc.

Yep, bent rod is highly likely.

You could pull the engine with the intent to repair it, however, there is probably big damage.

Do anyone know if I have to purchase a N62 from another E70 or can it be any N62 (5series/ 7series/etc.)?

Sorry to see this happen. Are you in Houston? Glad the wife is ok. I'd see what insurance would do with it before looking for an engine.

Id just have insurance take care of it. I don't see how repairing it yourself would be cheaper and who knows what else has water damage. Claim it.
