I will try to keep this short and sweet but it will require some explaining, I am hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction.
It all started about a month ago when my water pump failed. I saw the DIY for the water pump on here and decided to give it a go and was successful, BUT, when I put everything back together I did not make sure the lower radiator hose was completely secure and clipped onto the radiator fitting which caused the radiator hose to pop off when pressure built up in the radiator, the hose subsequently hit the radiator fan causing the fan to shatter in about a 100 pieces and putting several holes in the radiator. OUCH and DOUBLE OUCH!! So fast forward two weeks and I got the new raditor and fan assembly. Installed everything, filled with coolant, figured everything would be good to go, went to do the water pump bleed procedure, nothing, not even a humming noise or anything from the water pump, no stream of coolant in the expansion tank, hmmmm. So I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes figuring that would reset the water pump, still didn't work. I started the engine and let it run for a few minutes thinking maybe it would start something. After the engine warmed up, there was a very loud thumping noise in the radiator, almost like the same noise you hear in those old radiators in older buildings when there is air trapped in them. This continued until I finally shut of the ignition fearing it might explode. The new radiator is from the dealership, it's a Behr and is the same brand and part number as the old one, so I know it's good. It is pretty obvious that the water pump is not running, I question whether it is even getting power. Or could this be the thermostat not opening and perhaps the water pump will not work if it senses a bad thermostat? I am wondering if perhaps the electrical connectors for the water pump and thermostat may have been damaged or shorted out when the radiator popped off which spewed plastic fan peices and hot coolant all over the place? I looked at the wiring to the water pump and thermostat, and could not see any fraying or any place where any wires were exposed, and it does seem to be grounded. I am going to see if I can find the fuse for the water pump tonight and if that doesn't work I will try my multimeter skills and see if the wiring and connectors have power coming into them. Other than that I guess I will just replace the water pump and thermostat again. Does anyone else have any suggestions or ideas? Does anyone know which fuse(s) are for the water pump? I have the fuse box diagram but I can not tell which symbol would be a water pump!! Any help would be appreciated.
