Hello from the E53 board - E70 question on ride height

Hi, I've been on the E53 board for a while, and now we're moving into E70 land. The wife and I just bought a '12 xdrive35d, white on black, running boards, sport, style 214 wheels, etc. Will be selling her '04 3.0i automatic but keeping my '01 5 speed manual X5.

In punching the VIN into bmwvin.com, in the list of (many) options, we've got P330A SPORTS PACKAGE and S225A STANDARD SUSPENSION. Being used to the E53, these would seem at odds with each other. You either had sports settings or std.

On the E53, the ride height is about 1 inch lower with the sports settings. Is that the same on the E70? Or does this mean that our new car has everything from the sports package EXCEPT the springs and struts/shocks (but what else would there be?)?

Anyway, just a curiosity, and I could find anything definitive with a quick search.

That means you have standard rear suspension, not air suspension.

Wow - thanks for the quick response! Do you know if sports and non-sports are at the same ride height on the E70?

I don’t know, sorry. I think the ride height is the same though. I think the different suspension options are the “normal” one and Adaptive Drive which is marked my a “SPORT” button below the shifter.

This issue is HORRIBLY confusing for the E70.

You should do a search- sport suspension delete- will lead you to MANY threads on this.

There is no 'sport suspension' in the USA (at least before 2013 as I recall). Choice is standard or adaptive drive. With or without rear air height...

Thanks, good reading. FWIW, my friend has a 35i, and his has the S226A Sports suspension settings with no adaptive drive. My prod date is 9/2012 and his is 8/2012, but mine is a 2012 model, and his is 2013 - go figure. Must be a rare bird.

The model year cut off date is different for diesel versus gas, as I recall...

Diesel was sept/October. Gas I think in May??
