oil level

somewhat of a silly question but after having my car parked on a downward slope on numerous occasions it keeps saying check engine oil level. once driven for a bit it drops off as if nothing ever happened. any thoughts?

Have you checked the oil level?

Car just came back from dealer. I didn't check the level but after driving its back to normal so guessing it drains to a low point and then has trouble resetting the level for some reason

Check the oil level, don't just trust others assuming they did what they were supposed to do. There should be 8qts of oil in there, you shouldn't be getting low oil warning unless you are parking on a 90 degree incline lol :p

I'm parking on a pretty steep slope. Will check oil level.

You literally would have to be parking on a vertical slope for a full (proper) oil fill to register as low, even then, I don't think it would. For sure, the slope you're parking on is causing the level warning but it wouldn't if the proper amount of oil was in the sump to begin with.

My X5 came back over a quart low from an oil change. The level warning only came in when it was very cold before the engine warmed up.

Anyone installed a manual dipstick, or know if there is a practical way to do it?

Sure, modern sensors are cool, but I like having the old fashioned way as backup.
