X5 E70 transmission woes
2010 BMW X5 diesel (E70) 135,000 miles original transmission fluid and no visible leaks Noticed that on occasion when switching the shift knob from park to reverse the x5 will make a rough bang lurch and switches to park automatically. From research, I have not found out what is the cause. One thread noticed if a door or hatch was open the car would throw itself into park. I'm debating if now since the x5 is having issues that I will get the dealer or myself to change the transmission fluid+filter and see if this helps the problem. My thinking is the transmission could be low on fluid? Valve body? GA6HP26Z is this the transmission in my e70? Any ideas? Thank you kindly |

considering the servce interval is 100k, and many recommend well sooner...at 135k you are way overdue
What's to 'consider'??? It the problem 'the fluid is bad'? or is the problem 'my failure to maintain the fluid has now resulted in damage to the trans'? Maybe this is what you are asking? Last edited by ard; 08-16-2016 at 09:26 PM. |

This is a very annoying "feature" that I'm reminded of sometimes. With engine running, trans in drive ( I bet it does same thing in reverse), if I take foot off of the brake, before I close the door, the trans is slammed into Park. I would suggest you try this and see if it recreates the noise you hear. Perhaps one of your door switches is intermittently inoperative and causing the problem. |
