We now pretty much know these sensors last about 50K miles. Definitely my experience.
I am at 113K miles on my X5d. Pre-Cat sensor is new since 90K miles. The Post-Cat sensor was cleaned in ultrasonic cleaner (that probably didn't help much), so it is on its way out. But they need a code to authorize repair, right? |

Any idea if this covers the code 4d16 scr system efficiency / p20ee code? Pending for now.
It comes on and off, so the code is stored. 2 weeks ago, I had been waiting for readiness for the scr to pass and it did, only for a few minutes later the cel p20ee / 4d16 Came up...argh I cleared it because I have to pass inspection this month! I don't get nox sensor code but I read that replacing nox sensors fix it? Does their reimbursement cover work done by your self (part costs, no labor) or an Indy shop doing it? I ask because the local bmw dealership always has a long wait and I need to pass inspection by the end of the month! What also worries me about using the dealer is that on the bmw-rp site my vin for my 2011 35d doesn't show the nox recall yet: BMW Owner Reimbursement Program Last edited by robnitro; 07-05-2017 at 07:00 AM. |

oh man what a close call. hate having to throw money at the car last minute to pass stupid inspections. happened every time with my gas cars. even if you get the new sensors put in tomorrow you have to drive it for it to set. thats when you start driving your car on the highway at high speed to get the monitors to set....with an expired plate |

CEL came on and code shows P20EE.. NOx sensor bank 1.
I have a 2010 X5 35D with 105K miles. Will the dealer fix it free of charge? Or do I have to have that "warranty extension" letter? |

They can look up your vehicle in the system to see if it falls under the extension so no letter needed. However that being said dealers sometimes aren't the easiest to work with so I usually keep the letters in the glove box just in case.

In discussions Ive seen for similar situations (E61 water ingress), once the decision has been set in place (June 2017) you can no longer seek reimbursement outside of BMWs program. Parts receipts or indy repair receipt qualifies for reimbursement prior to this date only. If you explain to your service advisor the time necessity maybe they can work you in earlier? They have to be aware that you need to put 500 miles on to ready monitors.... I have a 4d16 pending now, has come on twice in 2500 miles. My 2010 shows Nox on rp site, Im not aware there are any blanket exclusions.

UPDATE: I filled up the passive DEF tank and after a couple days the CEL is gone. Has anyone else also experienced this?
