I'm pretty sure I already know the answer but figured I would get on the forum and make sure before I drop $400 on a new one. I've been surprised before. Figured with how the sensor is held in place by the valve cover and maybe if I applied a little plastic epoxy between the cracks and got it back into its original position maybe it wouldn't effect its functionality? I know it's far fetched... but again, I've been surprised before... If I do have to replace it (which seems likely) is there an aftermarket option or is this one of those "trip to the dealership" items? Thanks again everyone!
Do you just pry the eccentric shaft sensor to remove it? Snap back in when installing a new one? Mine have cracks like yours. Thank in advance.

There are two small bolts on the sensor. Referring to the picture on page 1 of this thread you will see the brass eyelets that the bolts go through.

After removing them you will be able to simply pull the sensor out of the cylinder head. It is a snug fit but should come out with a little wiggling.

I would NOT buy an aftermarket sensor. Both myself and many other people have had issues with them. I tried aftermarket before I went with dealership and the aftermarket sensor did not function right fresh out of the box. I had to tear my engine apart all over again to put an OEM one in and return the cheap knock-off.

Oh man, yeah I strongly agree, aftermarket sensors are a no no. Thank you!

Just replaced mine

On my '09 E70 3.0, saw a write up if going as far as replacing the VCG then do the sensor as well. For the N52 it was $230 at FCP Euro.
