Lost oil cooler line locking clip - Any replacements?

While removing the oil cooler line, The locking clip popped off and rocketed somewhere in my garage. I have looked and looked and cant find it. I need to replace it but the stealership doesn't just sell the clips but rather the whole hose. at $160 a piece... All I need is the dang clip. Does anyone know if these can be purchased anywhere? I've called around to local salvage yards but no one has an E70 X5.

I'd hate to spend $160 for a tiny metal clip... Thanks in advance everyone!

Well, unless there's someone on here that knows something I don't, it looks like I'm going to have to fork over $160 for a friggin' metal clip!

I've searched and searched, locally at salvage yards, online, different sites, ebay, etc, etc... It looks like you simply cant get one of those clips separately...

looks like I'm going to walk into the dealership, bend over, and spread em' wide once again for BMW. This crap is starting to get old....

the clips are the same but they come in all sorts of different sizes. good luck

i don't use google but searching for "bmw retaining hose clip" returned lots of stuff

Try the image search... Can you just wire it up using steel or copper wire for the time being??

Unfortunately the coolant line clips are not the same as the oil line clips. I already tried that route and they are nowhere near the same shape or size. Even the small coolant line ones. And I couldn't find anywhere on ECStuning the right one. I think they only sell the hoses too.

I also already tried a home remedy. I got a thick paperclip that was the exact diameter as the oil line clip. and spent about 20 minutes bending it to as close as possible the oil clips shape. Damn near exact. Started the car up an the line popped off after just a couple seconds and sprayed several quarts of oil in the engine bay before I shut it off. That oil line flows fast!

With it being a high pressure line, I don't think anything is a safe fix except for the real deal. It's just infuriating that you cant buy the clip alone. Another insanely expensive mistake that shouldn't be a big deal but BMW likes to milk their customer for every penny they can.

No, not a clip. You will never form something and get in annealed into the proper spring. But wrapping multiple wraps of wire around and through that 'path' and then maybe a screw clamp around the outside, jsut keeping it all compressed into the 'slot'....

Frustrating thing is there are a few hundred of those clips sitting around the country right now, to be thrown out in the next few months when the parts they are attached to are scrapped or recycled....

thick enough wire and something like a garrote on the other side to tighten it with, maybe?

Try Googling a specific BMW junk yard. I've used one in Sacramento Ca. and Alpharetta Ga. I've had success complaining to the Service Manager for a similar part which miraculously showed up. Good luck.

In a meantime, I'd try to rig a clip out of a spring - home depot has a big selection, if there's one nearby. I understand the paperclip thing didn't work, but it was soft, non treated metal.
