My New-ish X5

Hey Guys,

So as all of you know my '08 was totaled before Christmas. BTW Happy New Year Merry Christmas and all that jazz. I just bought a 2010 X5 3.0X-drive Base as opposed to my option laden 2008. Its got 70k on the clock, 3rd row with load level, CIC Navi, 4-Heated Seats, Leather, 4 zone, Trailer Tow, I have a sport button so I must have adaptive drive?, Pano Roof, Sunshades, Sirius, SOS, Bamboo Trim and Comfort Access. I paid nothing for it. Literally $14K....Steal.

However, I miss my auto dim folding mirrors, heated wheel, homelink and Top Hifi Audio. Also my HUD but I can Deal. I do not have Premium Package, Tech Package, Ambient Lighting, Active Steering, power telescoping wheel, running boards,Parking Sensors, Camera, NOTHING. Its Odd, I have the sport Button which works and tightens the suspension (or so it seems) and the black headliner.

So tomorrow, I am swapping my wheels because I have brand new tires on my 08, Removing and swapping my Auto dim mirror on the interior. Id like my power fold mirrors with heat and auto dim, the FRM Module, and my Top Hifi Mids, Tweeters and Subs. The Front tweeters and Center Channel at least. Im even gonna try and snag the ambient lighting harnesses for the doors. Also my new cabin and air filters. Im also snagging the Amplifier for the top HIFI system and the Sirius Tuner. Im also swapping the vents out as mine are spotless and have all of the tabs working. I will be removing and replacing these parts with my existing parts where applicable.

My Question is....Must I remove the front door panels to gain access to the mirror bolts and the tweeter? Im assuming the FRM Module is the same PN seeing as how mine is a mis badged 2008 3.0 X-drive instead of a 3.0SI. The rest I know I can retrofit at a later time. Id love to steal the running boards but its too cold.... anyone up for a swap this spring?

Thanks in advance guys. Im gonna sound like a loser but its going to break my heart cannibalizing a member of the family that I put so much time and effort into with my new one sitting next to it.

Heres the new one.

Cheers!

i'm sure it'd have buffed out and you could have kept all your gadgets

or get the old girl back and move all the things across, there's a project for boring winter nights...

Score on the AD.

Take it through some turns and over speed bumps- the car should 'feel' much smaller than your old one. AD is on 100% of the time, the 'sport' button tightens it up, thats all.

My husband said to buy it back and fix it.....11000 in damages made me a little apprehensive.

It does feel 1000 times different but I miss my active steering.....I was so used to my old X that I damn near smacked a pole at work shooting out of my parking space.

You can probably get the old one fixed for less than $11k. And if it's as nice as it sounds it's worth more than $11,500 even with a salvage title. I've had two cars totaled, bought and fixed both and enjoyed having them and made out financially.

I Seriously Considered it. After Driving this X5 for a few days, I am gonna keep this one. Everything I mentioned that I missed can hopefully be added to some point with the exception of the Active steering. I decided that it made sense (Dollars and Cents) for a newer one with the new navi, bluetooth streaming audio (Yeah I was shocked, the only thing I can guess is that it was retrofitted by the previous owner) and 3rd row seating.....Ill retro fit everything else.

blue dragon will become famous soon enough
You have all the donor parts, start swapping . Several different versions of the FRM, look on realoem to see how the part numbers correspond to dates
