DEF active tank

2012 X5d with 67k on the clock.

Like many people, after the service engine light came on I pulled the p004BAC fault code using Carly. It stated it was the reducing agent active tank level sensor. I've read that this should be covered under the CA emission warranty. I booked the car in with BMW and they replaced the active tank, stating that the SCR sensor was not working. However, they said this was not covered by the CA emission but rather an extended BMW fix. I thought this was interesting. Nevertheless, the car was repaired at no cost to me.

When I went to collect the car the windows would not work and I thought here we go again. They said they would have to charge me the $140 investigative fee. They found a faulty FRM was the cause. To my surprise, they stated that this would be replace under a BMW extended warranty and it would not cost me a penny. What a result!

So, if you think your FRM is faulty you might be able to get it replaced under this extended BMW cover.

Good for you, you saved lots of money.
FRM and SCR are well known issues on the boards, glad you were covered.
Does yours need the drive shaft replaced? Thats a recall, along with both airbags.

Enter your last 7 digits of the VIN on this link and everything on the drop down should be covered under warranty/recall

When they did your tank, they probably disconnected you battery. Whey they reconnected it, the FRM got corrupted. It happens all the time so BMW has extended the warranty on the FRM also. So you got a 2 for 1.

I have a 335d that was purchased in California as well. If you read the actual fine print on the california emissions law its pretty gasoline oriented. It covers only some things and I'm aware having had my tank replaced as well does not cover the SCR tank, Carbon Build Up, and I want to say a few other items. I'd have to look. But basically the warranty only covers what is expressly listed in the California guidelines.

The SCR tank temperature sensors die all the time on BMW diesels, so its a very common problem. I would say they seem to last about 50-70k on average.

On my diesel I've had 4x EGR coolers Replaced, 3x EGR valves replaced, 4x MAF Sensors, 4x Exhaust Pressure Sensors, 1x DPF, 1x Vaccum Lines, 1x SCR meetering device, 1x SCR tank, 2x 02 Sensors and I have 53K miles :-(

You think the N62's are bad for all of their failures....
