Panoramic Roof repair
Hey all, have a 2006 X5 with a panoramic roof. The roof tilts open and closed without issue (surprisingly) but the rear inside cover appears to be missing. I can only assume it is stuck inside the headliner in the rear. But when I try to open the sunroof, the forward cover moves back to just forward of the headliner opening and stops. Then the sunroof doesn't open at all. Push the switch forward and it slides back where it belongs but the rear cover never appears.
Any ideas on how to get this all back together and working properly again without replacing the entire sunroof cassette? I've read a huge number of posts, but can't seem to find one that addresses this issue. Thanks for the help! |

I had this same problem after taking delivery of my CPO 2013 X5. It apparently is more common that we're led to bel eve and involves removing the headliner to repair.

I had a feeling on having to drop the headliner. Just hoping someone has the remaining steps figured out.

Well, found the problem and it was the little tow strap between the two sections that had broke and the rear portion wasn't fully into the cassette. Pushed it into its rest position and the sunroof now works and so does the front. But the rear is still in the cassette.
Oh, well, I ended up getting rid of the 06 anyhow as there were a lot of issues occurring. Picked up a beautiful 08 instead. |
