My friends 2007 E70 3.0d has done 950,000km... still going strong. My old E70 3.0d (bare in mind it was tuned to 340hp) covered just over 300,000km before I sold it, hadn't had any big issues other than the rear diff, and regular services and small repairs. New owner hasn't experienced any issues issues either. They are built a lot better in terms of covering high milages than the F15, my friends M50d's turbos failed at 20k, and another guys M50d engine failed at 40k...

I have had a 2006 530xit with 182,000 miles that has been running fine without major problems, presumably with the original engine and transmission.

My last X5 3.0 not turbo had 155k on it before it was totalled. Perfect engine.

For those E70 owners with 3.0 engines that did go 200-300K KMs, what kind of preventative maintenance (if any) was done to the transmission and/or differential?

At 250,000 on my 3.0d, my rear diff failed. I replaced it with an X5 M diff. Bare in mind it was tuned to almost 100hp more than what it was from the factory and used that power on a regular basis, so the fact it failed is understandable. Transmission is still working perfectly for the new owner at 300,000, just regular fluid and filter change / service... whereas on my 03 cayenne S, I had to have the whole gearbox re/built at 100,000... The 100hp increase was achieved by a remap, bigger intercooler with stronger piping to handle the boost, and a turbo re-build.

With Mine I changed all the fluids @ 100K also with the transmission I changed the plastic belly pan as the filter for the transmission is in the pan.

10 miles from the big 100k, replacing the radiator this weekend. My only leak (currently) is a small coolant leak from under the rad.

114k and counting on my '11 X5D.
Purchased in July w/ 102k on it. Changed trans fluid, rear diff, couple of oil changes, coolant was done when the t-stat was changed, power steering (hydraulic) fluid changed, brake fluid changed, new battery. Unrelated to engine: New tires, upper control arms, and alignment. About to do pads and rotors all the way around. |

OP is asking about 3.0l gasoline engine, which is believed (by some) to work overtime in - let's be honest,- quite a heavy car, hence the expectation (again, by some) that it wears faster than in other applications.
