Gas Guage

Does anyone else find the fuel gauge on their X to be a little weird? When I fill up, the estimated mileage tells me I can go 450 miles (yeah, never made it past 405) but it never fails that I use up a quarter tank by 66 miles according to the gauge. lol

I also love messing with the estimated mileage counter. It tells me i got 60 miles left. I drive it like a limo for 10 miles and now it's telling me I have 70 miles left. lol

Too much fun.

This isn't new to anyone that's had older BMWs with the extended OBC. The "estimated mileage" fluctuates because the calculation for RANGE is not static. Just as mentioned...if you drive like a limo for 10 miles...the range (estimated mileage) increases...that's because driving more conservatively reduces fuel consumption...thus increases MPG.

If you're on the highway maintaining a consistent speed (aka cruise control)...you may see a particular estimated mileage...then if you get off the highway to merge into city traffic...the estimation will decrease due to higher fuel consumption from stop-n-go traffic and higher RPM from standing stops etc.

Again, it's an estimation of how far you can go calculated by current & prior "fuel consumption" data. If your driving situation changes and impacts your fuel consumption...then it will affect the "range" estimation...which is how it should be instead of giving you a calculation not including the current/recent fuel consumption/driving situation.

Never said I didn't know how it worked. I said it was hysterical to watch it work.
