It's not mine, I just used it as a reference. Found it on google.

Here is a picture of my trunk fuse panel. Hopefully this helps. Keep in mind, if your X has different options than mine, there may be fuse differences. But at least this will give you a starting point.

Yes, I suspect a power problem. BMW-Planet.net(?) has wiring diagrams that might help identify the correct fuses and should tell if the fuses on top of the battery are involved. These diagrams are only thru 2008 I think, but I suspect X-drive power distribution for newer models will be similar. These diagrams are viewable on Win10, but installation is involved. You need to load & config Java, load svg viewer.

On the right side of the fuse box is a drawing that shows what the fuses power. Open it and look for 4x4/DTC/AWD/X-Drive etc.
Did you check the fuse box under/behind the glovebox?

The '08 transfer case is powered by F92(25a) and F125(5a). Both of these get power from F172 on top of battery. With engine running, check F92 & F125 fuses for power w/DMM.

Indeed was a power problem. Ended up being fuse 92 (25a). Late reply, but thanks a lot, saved me a trip to the stealer. Glad I have AWD in this Chicago weather @ snow
