Odd shifting issues 08 X5
The other issue is rough transmission shifting issues when cold/warm. It seems to hang in gear then shift. I checked the bottom of the trans pan to see if there any leaks. I don't see a drop, so I'm confused scratching my head. A shop said I had low battery voltage warning and could possibly cause issues with the solenoids firing? Multimeter says the battery is at 12.16 volts with the ignition off. . I mean I know BMW's like their maintenance, but at 50k? its almost 10 years old.

Previous owner could have changed fluid with the wrong kind.

SOlenoids dont "fire" off battery voltages. Once the car is running the Alternator is running your electric.
If the shop really said that, dont go back. You have a BMW scanner? Capable of reading modules, stuff like that? Like ISTA? Transmissions fail for things other than fluid leaks and fluid type. Do the maintenance but dont assume it *IS* the maintenance causing the issue. I assume you have read about BMW ZF transmissions, issues and troubleshooting?? Unfortunately, since BMW doesnt fix transmissions, virtually no BMW mechanics know crap about them. "Just swap them" is the official policy. You probably should find a shop that is a ZF transmission specialist....but first read the AT module for errors. |

I took it in to get the battery checked. Sure, enough some idiot shop put in a old interstate battery but it was programmed to " AGM" instead of Lead Acid. So the battery wasn't being charged properly. They switched it back to lead acid and programmed it with a new one. It seems to shift better, but I still think I should have the trans checked for fluid level.
I don't have a scan tool other than Torque OBD2, but that's generic codes. I read that Carly works good, but my OBD2 scanner doesn't seem to work with it. |

Placebo? Anyway, monitor it fore a few weeks. If you pay to check the fluid, look at the quality. Heck, maybe just service the fluid and pan filter....
But before you pay money for a service, nail down if there still is an issue. You dont want JUST a fluid change if you are having issues....there is a bit more to do once you drop the AT pan. report back |

Yeah, apparently it can be anything from low fluid, to a bad valve body seals or the mechatronic unit itself. I've gotten quotes to change the fluid ( OEM) with filter from 570.00 to 1,000. The 570 is a mobile mechanic who used to work for BMW. But would it be worth to replace all the seals while your already in there? It seems like a alot of guess work and trial error for a vehicle at 50k miles.
