Video of the electric water pump in action on my E70
This shows proof of how the economy, normal and performance modes BMW uses with the electric water pump in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFpu...ature=youtu.be

Video of the electric water pump in action on my E70
Why does engine switch to normal and then performance mode when car hits a hill?
I know it requires more power, but wouldn’t the engine be generating engine power at that rpm and speed to overcome the climb? I always wondered why my coolant temperature drops 10-15C ! Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Qsilver7 posted a great info page a few threads down covering the modes that the E70 uses for the cooling system. Hopefully he will chime in with it but I will go look and see if I can find it.
Basically its has 4 modes. Economy - Very high temperatures with little room for coolant temp spikes. This gives you the best gas mileage and allows the car to do the best emissions wise. Normal - The coolant temp is lowered to give a bit more room for coolant temp spikes and more power. Performance 1 - The coolant temp drops drastically and power goes up even higher but mpg goes way down. Performance 2 - Max cooling and max power.

I searched for his post on that and couldn't find it. Hopefully he will chime in.

Very cool. Thanks for posting. However, this can be done with a mechanical water pump and electric thermostat like most BMWs have. It’s all in the DME programming. Not so much an electric vs mechanical pump thing.
