HELP! Won't start after replacing glows plugs + glow plug module
I should start by saying my 35d E70 was occasionally stalling before I replaced the glow plugs + module. I knew there was an issue with the glow plugs and/or module as it was throwing error codes in Carly BMW so thought I would swap them out to see if it resolved the stalling issue. I have since read that the stalling issue may be due to a faulty injector so that was next on the list. 5 of the 6 glow plugs came out fine but one was just spinning so I left that one in place until I can get someone to remove it in the near future. O:-) While I had the intake manifold off I also carried out the EGR and swirl flaps delete. Put everything back together and it will not start! Turns over fine but just wont fire. > I did spray some EGR cleaner down the ports to remove carbon so not sure if this may have caused the issue? Looking at the error codes I'm guessing the new glow plug module may be faulty or connector not inserted fully but would this cause the car not to start on a warm day? Any advice greatly appreciated!! These are the error codes after each start of the car: Engine/Motor:
These are the error codes remaining after clearing down the codes: Engine/Motor:

Rail pressure electrical connector is right by the EGR. Have you checked that out? How much EGR cleaner did you spray inside the engine? You may want to change your oil.

Did you read any info about CBU removal before doing this?

Yes, read about someone doing this on a thread on this forum. I guess you shouldn't believe everything you read!
What is the problem with spraying EGR cleaner down the ports? Any advice on the cause of my non starting issue?

Yes, all connections have been checked apart from the glow plug module as it will mean another strip down. Do you think that I am getting error codes for all glow plugs means the issue is with the glow plug module?

You might not have seated the connector to the module properly. There was another thread about a similar issue

I had read the other thread relating to glow plug module connections which got me thinking that may be the issue. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ol-module.html Am I right in thinking that the car wouldnt start at all if the module isn't properly connected? I am going to have to take the intake manifold back off to get access to the module so will it be safe to crank the engine with the intake manifold removed to see if I am still get error codes for the glow plugs after checking the connections on the module? I would rather test before replacing the manifold if possible.

You certainly don't want anything near it that could be sucked in / fall in. No dirt, debris, tools, dangling electrical connectors etc. Just my two cents, but I keep learning that taking short cuts with the X is usually a bad idea in the long run. |
