COMBOX help?

Okay, on my 2013 LCI I found that the problems I am having with all Bluetooth issues were the combox. I updated the software and it is working better but because it is 2G it won't work with BMW Connect. So, I ordered a new 4G upgraded replacement.

The question I have for the group, does anyone know what coding will be required to upgrade/replace the combox? Since the infotainment system is already setup for combox, I shouldn't need an FA code I would guess. But I don't know the intricacies of the programming replacement. Most places I have contacted know about retrofit installations, but not direct replacements.

Thanks in advance for any information provided.

The problem is, you need to get BMW Assist to allow that new Combox (it will have a new IEMI#) on their system. Unless you figure out a way of doing that, its never going to work -regardless of what you do with the car.

Already talked to them and they told me to call back with the IMEI and they will update the system over the phone. So you are certain that the update of the IMEI is the only thing/coding needed? If that's the case I can have this installed in a couple of hours (of course when I am home) this weekend!!

Very good. That new combox will needed to be coded and added to your car. If its a used combox that was previously coded, it might work without doing anything, but it probably will have a different VIN (of the donor car) so will screw up the BMW assist end.

Brand spanking new combox. Would you know what coding and maybe how to do it? I've been all over the coding sites and they can't say what is needed for a new that is replacing another. Everything they seem to write about is the entries needed for retrofit (telling the car it has combox and not mulf and/or tcu) and not for replacement.

The only people who seem to do 2-4g replacements have been the dealers. Have you asked bimmergeeks?

Was lucky enough to have someone send me SB B84 03 16 that describes exactly how to program the replacement using ISTA/P. The caveat to that is your version needs to be 3.59.5 or higher. Now to update my ISTA/P and should be ready to go!
