Left low beam malfunction

Turned on the X this morning and the left low beam malfunction message popped up on my display. 2007 4.8. I saw that the low beam was out on the drivers side. Is there a bulb I could by from a local pep boys? How do I put it in? Is there a diy?

Also not the same scenario but I also have a left rear malfunction display message for the tailgate light but it works fine. Just pops up about twice a day. Wired part is when I wash the X and water goes in the tail light, the message doesn't appear.

Any help would be great! Thanks

Do you have a xenon or regular headlights?
Open the taillight and inspect the contacts and the bulbs.

You should start with the bulb, eventually could be the ballast. Easiest way is to switch the bulbs of both headlights. These are expensive, but you can find used and new on Ebay for a fair price.
DO NOT TOUCH THE BULBS OR IGNITERS with lights turned on. Ignition OFF is always good insurance that you will not get in direct contact with 85-300 volts

Is it pretty easy to do. Not really a diy person but know the basics I guess. I looked at the head light and it looks like it's just a cap over the bulb. Is it as easy as putting my hand in that tiny space and u clipping the springs to remove?

Just found a xenon bulb at pep boys for $69 with online code. It's a Phillips. What do you think?

Sounds good, may be a bit different color than the original.

I don't know if Phillips makes one for the X5, but they make an 85122 D2S bulb that is supposed to match an aged bulb so the color matches.

Was it resolved with the bulb ? I get the error for the right lowbeam intermettent sometimes it turns right on , sometimes doesn't , this was recent started last week . 2008 x5 4.8 I live in Los Angeles no rain so can't be water damage .

If I leave them off and turn the lights back on it works sometimes it needs a break anyways thanks if you have an answer
