Increased Battery Discharge

Getting this notice, “Battery discharging while stopped, turn off unnecessary electrical consumers, reset date and time if required, in case of repeat occurrence in your system checked by your BMW center”. I guess my battery is dying. Car starting OK but I am at the message of couple times. Any advice?

If you do not have electric thief somewhere..it is time to change original car battery which is old at least 10years.

Since its an X5 the alternator could be tired as well :-(. They can go without any warning, or only a warning that your having increased battery discharge. Replace your battery 1st, however.

I've been through 2x alternators on X5's.

I’m assuming this is the original battery being said the car is a 2012 so six years in a car with so much electronics I think is acceptable

6 years is good age... many batteries on E70 start to go dead after 10 years service. That is really good result. Last year changed mine. From 2008.

There is no 'one size fits all' on battery age.... If you have a driving profile that includes long runs, with the battery getting fully charged, it will last longer. You cannot say globally that 6 years is good or bad

Also, as weather turns cold and sub-freezing, we always see an uptick in battery issues.....

Agreed

While one battery does not fit all I agree and the fact that I do short runs around the city not long and bought the car six months ago not knowing the condition of the battery but assuming it’s the original from 2012 I will have the dealer check the battery and the alternator for repair
