That is the check gas cap warning lamp. If cap is loose it will display and will also display if you have a vent line with a leak or likewise with a fuel line.

Thanks. i checked the gas cap it's fine. left side valve cover gasket was replaced recently. could it be the fuel line at the quick connection?

Yes, it could be the quick connect as the system is detecting air pressure loss like a loose cap in the fuel system. Eventually it'll cause a check engine fault.

Short answer is no. It's not a fuel leak that is being indicated but a leak in the fuel system fuel vapor recovery system. This is an emission control system.

The most likely cause is a fuel cap that doesn't get installed after fueling, rarely a bad fuel cap and sometimes a cracked vapor recovery canister, failed recovery system valves or voided hoses/lines associated with the vapor recovery system.

Were any of those item's disturbed recently that you know of? Could just be coincidental with the VCG replacement.

I see. Fuel cap looks fine. Not sure about the other stuff. By the way the warning light is gone now. I drove the car from work to my place. When i left my house i didn't notice the warning light. No notifications in idrive either. Thanks again.

I think i found the culprit. The hose that connects to the purge valve was loosely connected at the quick connection. Looks like when VCG was done the mechanic forgot to reconnect it or connection wasn't tight enough.

Glad you found the culprit.

Just an FYI...the warning actually is in the owners manual. On the 2012 online (PDF) version...it is on page 269. One of the reasons I like the PDF version is that you can use the search feature and type a keyword or phrase and it will find every location in the manual that it appears.

Wow what a stupid looking image to say "gas cap".
It would've been better to show the square opening and the cap shown with an ! Symbol on it.

Really weird choice of graphics...
