If any non-M X5 was offered with shift paddles or buttons...it should be listed in the part database. Just pull up the steering wheel diagram. If there's a wheel with shift paddles or buttons...it will be listed and the option pkg that it was offered with should be in the supplemental info column.

If anyone needs a link to one of the online parts databases...here's 3 of my favs...feel free to save/bookmark them for future reference:

  1. BMW Parts Catalog
  2. BMWfans.info
  3. www.bimmercat.com

EDIT: A quick look (using a generic e70 X5)...I see that item #5 in the diagram below appears to be available for non-M models. You can click on its 11 digit BMW part nbrs to see what models it was offered on. And I also see option codes in the supplemental column:

I saw most M-Sports had it while searching for my car, but the M-Sport I bought does NOT have it BECAUSE there is some limit to the number of options that the wiring to the wheel can handle... My vehicle has the Lane Departure Warning, but no paddles or heated steering wheel.

And always check the VIN for any vehicle to know for sure what options it is equipped with:
7XA M LEATH.STEERING WHEEL W.PADDLES/MULTI <-- HAS Paddles
710 M LEATHER STEERING WHEEL <---------------------- NO Paddles
