Want to change the Serp belt - is the AC belt replacement necessary?

Considering its rarely used (never in winter)

Worst case if it ever does break, it won't damage anything and the car will still run

I’m of the opinion that they both have the same mileage on them and the same real wear and tear so if replacing one, I personally would replace both.

I know it’s a bit of a pain, but with the belt being driven by the crank pulley that belt is turning constantly even with the ac off - granted with very little/no load, but still subject to all the same heat cycles, etc under the hood.

My thought, change them both

No REAL need to, to your point, car will still run, unless that belt shreds and takes the serpentine belt out with it... just sayin...

Change them both. It’s an $8 belt. Also Dremel the top of the bolt so you can use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the tensioner.

This thread https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ine-noise.html has info on replacing both the serpentine and A/C belts on a 2009 35d.

My ac belt went a while back and damaged my serp belt by dislodging it with its bits. Do em both. Half the hassle of doing serp is removing and putting ac belt... no extra time needed

Just a quick tip or suggestion if this is for a 35d. Make sure the AC belt is a "stretch" belt if you do not get it OE. 4PK843 is the correct aftermarket number (even referenced in the ETK) but some companies do not supersede it to the correct "stretch" style belt. I learned this the hard way lol
